Book of Mormon Enrichment Program
The Book of Mormon Enrichment program is a one-on-one tutoring program designed to help missionaries study and understand the Book of Mormon better.

                                                We teach:
·         Phonics
·         Reading comprehension
·         Vocabulary
·         Reading Aloud

Through a self-evaluation form and in-person assessment, we strive to identify all missionaries who are in need of our program.  However, we definitely need the help of you as a teacher to ensure that no one slips through the cracks.  Missionaries who exhibit the following may need our assistance:

             ü  Mispronounces words
             ü  Declines to read aloud
ü  Does not know the meaning of words
ü  Has difficulty understanding and applying what is read

Some information that will be helpful for you to know:

Wednesday is self-assessment day
Please have your new missionaries complete the Self-Assessment forms and return the   completed         forms to our office (4M-215) on Wednesday afternoon.

Thursday is evaluation day
Our evaluators will take selected missionaries out of the classroom during study times to                         evaluate them. (Occasionally, we will need to pull them out during instruction time.     Thank you for       this inconvenience!)

Tutoring is ideally done during a missionary’s study time
If the need is particularly great, missionaries may also be tutored during class time, but we will                 contact you first.

Email is our primary means of communication with you as a teacher
Please email us (finlinsonkl@mtc.byu.edu) if you have a missionary who would benefit from                 our program, or if you want a progress report on missionaries we are tutoring.  We will email    you if       we have missionaries with special needs.

In-Field Orientation Schedule

Thought you might find this interesting! Especially because it is essential that the missionaries still find time to prepare for the TRC that night sometime during the day! Make sure this happens!  It is your responsibility as a teacher.

Lissy,
I apologize for not getting back to you sooner.  I was out of the office Friday.  The In-field schedule happens every Thursday and Friday.  The vision meetings happen in 1M-B145.  The breakouts happen in B-141 and B-137 (additional rooms on days with more missionaries).
·         8:00am: vision
·         8:50-9:40: Doctrine of Christ Breakout
·         9:45-10:10: Finding Vision
·         10:15-11:05: Finding breakout
1     11:05 - Lunch
·         12:00pm: Goals and Planning Vision
·         12:40-1:30: Goals and Planning breakout
·         1:40-2:05: Exercising Faith Vision
·         2:10-2:55: Exercising Faith Breakout
·         3:15-4:00: Working with Members Play
·         4:05-4:55pm: Working with Members Play
·         5:00-5:30pm: Wrap-up Vision meeting
       5:30 - Dinner

Take care,

Rob

Implementing Plan, Study, Teach

I have been frustrated by the lack of continuity between our explanation of the Plan Study Teach cycle and the missionaries' actual experience in the MTC--namely, that it never goes quite in order, and that often there are two companionship studies before one daily planning, for example.

I want to try a system where each companionship experiences the Plan Study Teach cycle sequentially even though they'll teach at different times. I'm not sure the best way to do this. I've considered replacing Daily Planning and Companionship Study times with something like "Prep" or "PST" and letting them take that time to do whatever is next in the cycle (or repeat the last activity, if they didn't finish it). I think this will result in most missionaries experiencing the Plan Study Teach cycle twice a day.

Does anyone have any other ideas? Since I don't have a classroom of my own, is anyone willing to try this and collaborate with me?
